[attachment=8050]

it cooks quickly and cleans up easily. It’s also capable of making toast in shades ranging from lightly to deeply browned without burning or drying out (making evenly browned toast is typically a challenge for toaster ovens). It has nonstick trays and illuminated LCD controls with digital readout, which owners prefer to timers. However, while best overall, the Krups toaster oven costs twice as much as others.

>> Where to buy Compact toaster ovenWith about a 10" x 10" footprint, the compact Sanyo takes up less counter space than any other toaster oven, but the tradeoff is that you can’t fit two slices of bread side by side. This model is a little taller than other toaster ovens. The Toasty is a hit with owners posting reviews to Amazon.com, who say it does the basics well including toasting bread, heating frozen pizza and warming leftovers, but it’s not meant for much more than that. There’s no broil function, no thermostat and just a 15-minute timer.

Where to buy Basic toaster ovenReviews say that the 31115’s performance belies its low price. It offers much more than you’d expect: a broiler function, automatic shutoff, 4-slice capacity, and a 2-year warranty. Reviews say that it does a particularly good job with frozen foods. As with many toaster ovens, making perfect toast requires some trial-and-error. Some owners find the ticking timer a little irritating, and the timer can only be set for 15 minutes. But if you don’t plan on much besides heating frozen chicken nuggets and pizza, the no-frills Proctor Silex toaster oven has a good track record so far.

Famous People Enjoy Ice Cream

Many people all over the world love ice cream so it should come as no surprise that amongst them are some very famous faces. Quite a number of famous people have been known to love ice cream including US Presidents Benjamin Franklin, George Washington and Thomas Jefferson.

Former British Prime Minister Baroness Margaret Thatcher also has an interesting connection with ice cream. She was part of a 1950’s research team working for a British ice cream manufacturer looking into ways in which ice cream manufacture could be improved and be made more profitable. The team came up with the idea of adding more air into the ice cream which meant that manufacturers would use less ingredients to produce the same amount thus increasing profitability. It wasn’t just the ice cream makers that benefited though because the ice cream produced became really popular - a soft serve ice cream which the public loved the texture of.

Bill Gates, Co-founder of Microsoft and possibly the world’s most generous philanthropist is reported to occasionally stop for an ice cream bar when travelling from Redmond (Washington) over Rose Hill. There’s an interesting anecdote about Microsoft Employees who were treated to free ice cream back in 1990 courtesy of a computer store chain. It was apparently following the shipment of Windows 3.0 which proved a massive success that Egghead (computer store chain) is believed to have sent trucks with free ice cream over to Microsoft’s offices so that the employees could all enjoy an ice cream bar to celebrate the success.

The legendary actor Marlon Brando was known to love ice cream and at one time is reported to have been seen buying 5 gallons at a time.

Here are a few others famous faces and what are understood to be their favorite ice cream flavors:

Jackie Chan
Chocolate Ice Cream

Elvis Presley
Chocolate Milkshake Ice Cream Peach Ice Cream

George W Bush
Pralines and Cream Ice Cream

Eddie Murphy developed a great stage comic performance out of his love of ice cream as a child.

Roald Dahl the famous children’s writer wrote about his fantasy of an ice cream that never melts in his most famous story ‘Charlie and The Chocolate Factory’.

Laurel & Hardy used ice cream in several, key comedy scenes including the famous ‘Moustachio Ice Cream’ sketch from their short movie entitled ‘Come Clean’ made in 1931.

Are you happy?I prefer people not to talk until the end.

2008-11-17 – 6:34 pm

I prefer people not to talk until the end. If you’re going to tell me something, then I’ll know it. Some people I can’t read and I will know straight away. There is a time in life when people need guidance. Mostly, people want to know there’s another place a loved one goes to. Knowing a loved one is safe brings Happiness.

I’ve had a sense since I was little. Auntie is pregnant, I’d say, and then the phone would ring. These days I don’t need to sell myself. I did a reading years ago, got my tarot cards out, and noticed a man staring at me. He came over and said, ‘Don’t believe in this, it’s all crap.’ I pulled him to me and said something in confidence, something specific. I found out he was the MD of Selfridges and then he asked me to give readings there.

I’ve never predicted someone’s death. If I saw something bad I wouldn’t say it, unless it was something like a woman’s husband sleeping with someone else - something happening here on earth. There are clients who affect you with their stories, like a woman who lost her son to suicide. It’s not callous, but you have to disconnect.

I’m quite happy. Work keeps me buzzing and afterwards I have a drink, a laugh. I don’t know what happens after this life when I go to meet my href="http://www.chinatoasteroven.com/">maker. I’ll be in the spirit world and hopefully I can come back and help the people I love.

Making Ice Cream Without A Machine

2008-11-12 – 2:36 am

Machines are relatively inexpensive nowadays with models costing less than $50, and yes, I’ve seen the ball, but if I started tossing one of those around the streets here in Paris, I’d probably get even more strange looks than I normally get. (Plus you’ll need to lug some rock salt home as well.)Making Ice Cream Without A Machine
People have been making ice cream far longer than the invention of electricity so there’s no reason you can’t make ice cream and sorbets at home without a machine.

The advantage to using an electric or hand-cranked machine is that the final result will be smoother and creamier. Freezing anything from liquid-to-solid means you’re creating hard ice crystals, so if you’re making it by hand, as your ice cream or sorbet mixture freezes, you want to break up those ice crystals as much as possible so your final results are as smooth and creamy as possible.

Cooking Custard

Machines are relatively inexpensive nowadays with models costing less than $50, and yes, I’ve seen the ball, but if I started tossing one of those around the streets here in Paris, I’d probably get even more strange looks than I normally get. (Plus you’ll need to lug some rock salt home as well.)

But not everyone has the space or the budget for a machine, so here’s how you can do your own ice cream at home without a churner. I recommend starting with an ice cream recipe that is custard-based for the smoothest texture possible. You can use my Vanilla Ice Cream or another favorite, or even this Strawberry Frozen Yogurt recipe using Greek-style or drained yogurt. The richer the recipe, the creamier and smoother the results are going to be.

Ice cream made this way is best eaten soon after it’s made—which shouldn’t be a problem.

Cooking Custard

Making Ice Cream Without A Machine

1. Prepare your ice cream mixture, then chill it over an ice bath.

2. Put a deep baking dish, or bowl made of plastic, stainless steel or something durable in the freezer, and pour your custard mixture into it.

Machines are relatively inexpensive nowadays with models costing less than $50, and yes, I’ve seen the ball, but if I started tossing one of those around the streets here in Paris, I’d probably get even more strange looks than I normally get. (Plus you’ll need to lug some rock salt home as well.)

3. After forty-five minutes, open the door and check it.

As it starts to freeze near the edges, remove it from the freezer and stir it vigorously with a spatula or whisk. Really beat it up and break up any frozen sections. Return to freezer.

4. Continue to check the mixture every 30 minutes, stirring vigorously as it’s freezing. If you have one, you can use a hand-held mixer for best results, or use a stick-blender or hand-held mixer.

But since we’re going low-tech here, you can also use just a spatula or a sturdy whisk along with some modest physical effort.

5. Keep checking periodically and stirring while it freezes (by hand or with the electric mixer) until the ice cream is frozen. It will likely take 2-3 hours to be ready.

You can easily make Stracciatella ice cream with Italian-style chocolate chips:
Drizzle pure melted dark or milk chocolate (about 5 ounces, 140 g) over the almost-frozen mixture, then stir, breaking up the ribbons of chocolate as they start to freeze, to create little ‘chips’.

Transfer the ice cream to a covered storage container until ready to serve.

Illicit Trade is a Growing Percentage of Global Commerce

2008-11-06 – 9:14 pm

The sale of everything from knock-off hand bags and reverse engineered Nike shoes to fake pharmaceuticals is helping drive the growing global trade in illicit goods. It is estimated that around ten percent of global trade is in illegal goods and it is growing seven times faster than legal trade. When you consider that the total value of global trade was estimated in 2007 at $25 trillion dollars, that means 2.5 trillion dollars was in illicit trade; a staggering figure.

Recently, PBS aired a special focused on the growing problem of illegal goods called “Illicit: The Dark Trade”. In it they showed how easy it was for individuals and businesses to acquire illegal goods and have them shipped to any location in the world. All this despite the ever present efforts of customs and law enforcement to disrupt these trade networks.

Unfortunately, China has been labeled a main location for the trade of illicit goods. This is in part due to the large scale manufacturing capabilities and volume of exports there. It is simply impossible for Chinese customs officials to keep track of all goods leaving the country. Worse still, bribery and corruption make it difficult to prevent it from happening.

Wearing fake Nike shoes or holding a fake Gucci handbag is one thing, but ingesting a potentially life threatening pharmaceutical is another. The most frightening aspect of illegal trade has to be the growing trade in illicit drugs. Untold thousands of people may be harmed or killed by taking these fake pills. Large drug companies like Pfizer claim that they lose billions of dollars in sales to counterfeiters of popular drugs like Viagra. While it is a challenge to fully measure the value of the global counterfeit drug market, what is clear is that it is a significant health issue.

At NuDeal we are on the lookout for illegal goods being listed on our site. Our fraud detection system flags potential listings and we remove those that do not respond to requests for authentication. However, it is simply impossible for any trade information site like ours to monitor everything and because of this we encourage members to read our safe trading guide to help protect themselves.

It is clear that illicit trade is here to stay and unless major changes take place in how goods are manufactured, shipped and sold, we will likely see the trade in illegal goods increase. Moisés Naím, the acclaimed editor of Foreign Policy magazine believes illicit trade could be a threat to our way of life that is as large as or larger than terrorism.

Global Recession: Why We Remain Optimistic

2008-11-06 – 9:12 pm

There is no doubt that we are in the midst of a major slowdown in the global economy. We have experienced a noticeable reduction in trade agreements being negotiated through our services. Companies are being very cautious with spending and the two cornerstones of business; freely available credit, and trustworthy insurance are now MIA.

The rapidly changing value of world currencies is going to have an incredible impact on the global economy also. The US dollar has surged against the Euro, Yen and Canadian dollar in the past month. It remains to be seen what impact this will have, but already manufacturers in the US are scaling back as they recognize the impact this will have on US exporters.

On the flip side the US consumer suddenly has a lot more power in terms of purchasing and importing goods. This is why we are cautiously optimistic. Factor in a lower oil price (essentially an energy tax cut) and it is not hard to see that US imports will grow soon. Once the panic and out of control fear subsides we expect the US consumer to come surging back in a big way.

The Global slowdown will force companies to clean their books, ensure their business is solid and it will weed out those poorly managed companies that have weak balance-sheets. In general, this is a healthy cycle that will strengthen the overall world economy.

The Obama Effect: A Positive For Global Trade

2008-11-06 – 9:11 pm

The last eight years has seen the worldwide reputation of the United States diminish as President Bush became recognized as a leader who would often take unilateral action rather than work together with leaders of other countries. He defined his presidency as one where he was “the decider” and many questioned whether he did enough to seek effective council and reach out to the international community for cooperation and collaboration on complex areas like global trade.

Enter Barack Obama. If the reaction in the international community to the announcement of his historical election win is any indication, he will be flooded with offers of cooperation from the leaders of other countries. Many foreign governments found it almost impossible to do business with the Bush administration due to the negative impact that perception would have for them in their own countries. With Obama, the way is clear for them to start fresh and rebuild alliances with the US.

For Obama to address the US economic woes he will need the support of the international community. If the global credit crisis has proved anything, it is that the world economies are inextricably linked and by working only within the borders of the US, he will make little headway in improving the state of the economy.

The good news is that Obama has shown that he is willing to reach out and has spoken numerous times about working together with the leaders of other countries. He has made some statements that could be viewed as protectionist, but many argue that he will not take a protectionist agenda, realizing that isolating the US and putting up trade barriers will only exacerbate the problem.

The next four years will be very interesting as Obama tackles major issues both within and outside the borders of the US. We expect to see an “Obama Effect” very early into his presidency and will be on the lookout for it.
