MERCED, Calif. -- Newly released transcripts from a trial pitting former Congressman Gary Condit against ice cream giant Baskin-Robbins show the former legislator could owe more than $100,000 in unpaid franchise and legal fees.
The ex-Ceres lawmaker opened two shops in the Phoenix area after leaving Congress in the wake of the murder of Chandra Levy, with whom he had a relationship.
Records from the one-day trial released recently show that the judge ordered the Condit family to pay more than $45,000 for franchise and advertising fees.
The company also asks for $60,000 in attorneys' fees. Chad Condit, the former lawmaker's son, testified that his lack of computer skills made it difficult for him to timely respond to Baskin-Robbins' requests.
